PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the final moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
